The 10% Challenge: Get Your Community Involved
The Challenge is designed as a flexible, low-overhead, high-leverage campaign to help you achieve maximum results at minimum cost.
Sustainable Hudson Valley is financing its support role through sponsorships and small grants, and charges no fee for participation in the campaign. We offer hands-on assistance in community outreach, media visibility, measurement and verification, local resources for action, event and promotional activities, and independent evaluation.
To be eligible for this support and for the campaign's incentives and rewards, participating communities must agree to share their results and activities in an "open source" manner for the benefit of all participants, and to take the following easy actions:
1. Use the "green footprint" logo and the name Ten Percent Challenge (can be within a longer name)
2. Link prominently to the Sustainable Hudson Valley website at www.sustainhv.org, and give SHV credit for devising and supporting the campaign.
3. Register on behalf of your community, including your specific goals for energy reduction and public participation, and your baseline measurements, and designate a spokesperson/ contact person for interfacing with SHV.
4. Pass a formal resolution on behalf of local government or other lead agencies that are advancing the Ten Percent Challenge in your community. Lead agency can be a business association, government, school district, faith community, college, or other organization with the resources to take this campaign on.
5. Send representatives to occasional meetings, training events and other gatherings of Challenge communities around the Valley (likely every few months), and participate in monthly coordinators' conference calls (to be scheduled in consultation with participants to mesh schedules as well as possible).
6. Communicate regularly via the Campaign social networks (chiefly Facebook) to keep the larger community aware of your efforts, successes, and lessons, and work with us to create a campaign support framework that's as helpful as possible to your community in meeting the Challenge.
Thanks!
