Magnetizing Downtowns '09 : Roger P. Akeley

Prior to his appointment with Dutchess County in 1984, Mr. Akeley was Executive Director of the Lakes Region Planning Commission in New Hampshire. He was an Environmental Program Manager at the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments, and a Research Associate at Bendix Corporation. Roger was a Lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Reserve and taught school on the Navajo Reservation. He has been published in Planning, Regional Focus, The Journal of the American Planning Association and Urban Lawyer. Mr. Akeley has developed strategies and programs on economic development, aquifer protection, conflict resolution, non-point source pollution, alternatives to incarceration, tourism, housing, agricultural land protection, community design and transportation. Chief among these initiatives is the Dutchess County Greenway Compact program.
