 Scenic Hudson has made a unique investment in the green infrastructure and economic foundation of the City of Beacon.   Since the mid 1990’s, recognizing the important link between urban revitalization and open space preservation, Scenic Hudson has worked in the City of Beacon in a multi-faceted program, collaborating with the community in a variety of ways. Ms. Groten will discuss Scenic Hudson’s: involvement with the community in

Planning for the waterfront;

Land preservation and park development;

Educational programming to teach the next generation about the intersection between human activities and the environment; and

Work to balance economic development and open space protection.

Margery Groten has been involved in land protection projects in Westchester, Dutchess, Rockland, Ulster, and Columbia Counties. She has been focusing on Scenic Hudson's "Urban Initiative" since 1997, working on acquisition of open space and creating public access to the river in cities and villages along the Hudson River. She is project director of Scenic Hudson's Long Dock Beacon, coordinating development of a 16-acre park, wetland restoration, remediation activities, trails, public decks, and a sustainable mixed-use development project.
