Much to be done locally to counter global warming, says local strategist

Loch Sheldrake – Innovations in energy, transportation and landscaping may help global warming, but they can also be economic development boosters. That according to Dr. Melissa Everett, executive director of Sustainable Hudson Valley. Everett spoke at Sullivan County Community College in Loch Sheldrake Tuesday evening. She said everyone can do their part on the local level. "The new energy technologies that are coming on line from solar to wind to geothermal to good old conservation are job creators," she said. "Everything we need to do to get ourselves out of our cars and onto our bikes, to eat more local food and less food shipped thousands of miles, is good for our lifestyle and so it is really a matter of mobilizing local leadership to make a thousand little tiny changes." Everett said she endorses the idea of the green technology park being proposed at Sullivan County Community College.
