The latest round of climate talks concluded in Bonn, Germany with
participation from more than 100 nations. The UN is optimistic that
climate treaty talks are on track to produce a successor to the Kyoto
Protocol before the end of the year.  Japan announced a goal to cut
emissions 8% from 1990 levels by 2020 prompting sharp criticism from
developing nations and environmental groups who are calling for cuts on
the order of 40% below 1990 levels by 2020. All the jockeying is
perceived by some as just part of the process and many were pleased that
the US, China and India are still participating in the process.
