Yes in My Backyard

Renewable energy is emerging as a primary way of powering our lives. Renewable energy accounts for nearly 88% of all new electrical generating capacity added to the U.S. power grid. Across the board, clean sources now account for roughly 30% of total U.S. electricity generation.  As their prices fall, solar, wind, hydro, and geothermal  are replacing polluting and hazardous coal, oil, and gas.  The maximum benefit of renewable energy comes when it is combined with battery storage, so that the power can be stored for use when the sun isn’t shining and the wind isn’t blowing.  With funding from the NY Community Trust,  SHV provides educational programs for leaders and entire communities to make informed decisions about where to locate solar and storage projects, and how to establish local policies that address residents’ concerns.

Sustainable Westchester’s solar photovoltaic array that captures energy from the sun, stores it into a 180kWh on-site battery, and works with twin Jule 75 kW DC fast chargers that can charge any kind of electric vehicle with more than 100 miles of range in under 24 minutes. This unique system is thus completely independent from the grid, which ensures that the EV charging at the facility will not operate on fossil fuels derived energy and reduces the impact on the demand on the grid.

Clean Power Guide

The Clean Power Guide is an annual publication that helps homeowners and renters understand their options for getting off fossil fuels and taking charge of their energy future.  Read the Guide here.
